Jakob (Jack) started racing as an elementary school cross-country skier, following in the footsteps of his elder siblings. In high school, he excelled in skiing as a team captain and 2 time ofsaa silver medalist, coached and raced with the school team for a year, and began to diversify into cross country and track running, marathon kayak racing, triathlon, and quadrathlon, which adds a kayak stage to a triathlon.
By 2002-2003, Jack was racing competitively in every season, winning the Ontario Cup Nordic skiing series and earning a fourth-place finish at the Canadian Ski Nationals, racing on the winning team in the Toronto International dragonboat festival, earning titles as the Canadian elite Champion and World Junior Quadrathlon Champion, and leading and coaching the Redeemer University College Cross Country Team with a silver medal at the provincial championships.
Jack scaled back his racing for the rest of university while he earned a triple major in Environmental Studies, History, and English and a Master’s of Urban and Regional Planning. He coached and raced with the Redeemer running Team and the Queen’s University Nordic Team, earning a total of 6 MVP awards and the Redeemer Athlete of the Year award in 2006, and cycling across Canada in the summer of 2006.
After completing his Master’s degree in late 2008, Jack returned to his hometown, took a job with the Bruce County Planning Department, and resumed coaching and training with the Georgian Bay Nordic racing team. 2009 marked his return to racing with a newfound affinity for endurance events, including the Blaze the Niagara Escarpment 3-day endurance relay race.
Since then, Jack has been blessed with opportunities to race in a variety of disciplines, from local road races, adventure races, and triathlons to world championships and international elite races.
